Frequently Asked Questions

When and where are meetings held?
Club meetings are held at Richland Library on Main Street, in either meeting room N or M, from 3:00-5:30 PM. They are usually held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, but check our website's homepage and socials for exact club meeting dates.

Richland Library's address: 1431 Assembly St., Columbia, SC 29201
What do you do at cubing club meetings?
Beginners can learn, experienced cubers can get improvement tips, participate in activities, or just practice, but we all have a great time conversing with one another. Club meetings are a great way to connect with the local cubing community!

Do I need to know how to solve a Rubik's cube to come to a club meeting?
Nope! We can teach you at the club meeting.

If you would like to get a head start on learning, check out this tutorial by J Perm!
Do I need to bring my own Rubik's cube to a club meeting?
Nope! We have some you can borrow during club meetings. Just make sure to return them!

If you would like to get your own cube, many people enjoy the standard Rubik's cube, which can be found at Target or Walmart.

For higher-performance cubes, here are our current recommendations:
High-end: MoYu WeiLong V11
Highest-Performance (Budget): MoYu RS3M V5
Highest-Durability (Budget): MoYu RS3M 2022

Shipping from TheCubicle is usually around $5 to SC.

  • Budget of $15: Standard version of the RS3M 2022 or V5
  • Budget of $20: Maglev version of the RS3M 2022 or V5
  • Budget of $25-$30: Ball-core version of the RS3M 2022 or V5
  • Budget of $45-$55: Get the 8-Magnet or 20-Magnet Ball core version of the Weilong V11
When ordering from TheCubicle, make sure to use a content creator's discount code for 5% off. (eg. "OLOR")
Is there a minimum/recommended age to come to a club meeting?

How can I improve past the beginner's Rubik's cube method?
The first step to improve past the beginner's method is to learn F2L, in which, instead of solving the white corners and 2nd layer as individual steps, you solve both at the same time.

I would recommend starting to learn F2L once you can solve the cube in less than 1 minute. Until you can solve it in less than 1 minute, just keep practicing!

As you learn F2L, you may get temporarily slower. But, over the long term, it will be worth it!

To learn basic F2L, check out this tutorial by J Perm!
